Emotions Ride With Us — They Don’t Drive the Car

Sometimes feelings show up suddenly. Anger. Sadness. Frustration. Fear. They can come in loud and strong. And in that moment, it can seem like they have taken over the wheel.

But here is a gentle truth to remember:

Emotions ride with us... they don’t drive the car.

You may not be able to stop a feeling from arriving. (In fact, let it take a seat. Just remember—you stay in the driver’s seat.)

We all know: Life happens, disappointments happen, and of course, unexpected moments happen. The feeling shows up first; that part is natural. But what you do next—that part belongs to you.

You can pause and take a breath. You can notice what you are feeling without handing over control. This is not about ignoring emotions or pretending they are not there. It is about remembering who is in charge.

Feelings can sit beside us for a while. They can 'talk', even make a bunch of noise! But they do not get to steer—unless we let them.

You stay in the driver’s seat: That is what Quiet Authority looks like.

No pushing the feelings away or fighting them. Simply staying steady while they ride along.

And when the road gets bumpy—as it sometimes will—you can take a breath, keep your hands on the wheel, and choose your direction.
